Eze, A Medieval Wonder
We took the morning easy today and after breakfast went to the beach near Hotel Ibis Californie. A quick note: The staff at Ibis are absolutely wonderful and went out of their way to help and answer questions. It was a bit of a cloudy day, but My mom, Fierce and I all swam in the water. It is so salty, you can float with little effort. In the morning, the waves are calmer, but still fun to jump. My mom and I talked and Fierce battled the waves. It was relaxing and fun all at the same time. It started to drizzle a bit, so we decided to go to the medieval village of Eze for the afternoon.
Step back in time as you walk through the archway that leads to Eze’s old town. The stone walls feel their age. There are little statue carvings on the corner of the walls that make you wonder at the treasures of history this place must hold. The cobblestone halls wind up and back around this city on a hill.
Little art shops, boutiques, cafés, artisan jewelry stores and confectionaries are set in the walls like caves with worn stone steps welcoming you to duck inside. My mom found a delicious truffle, sausage and honey shop where the samples were too good to not buy a little snack for our exploration. We talked to artists about their work. One couple made and signed their paintings together. Another lady made these gorgeous figurines out of metal, but the ballerina’s dress was a solid piece of quarts or amethyst. Eze has a very sweet vibe and is a beautiful place if you are looking for a unique souvenir and garden or sea views.
The train going back to Nice was the first crowded train we have encountered. We had to pack in like sardines as people shifted to stand further into the isles to let more people through the beeping doors. Fierce said what everyone was thinking and cheered as people got off the train at each stop. He was so entertaining that you could feel people’s annoyance turn to small laughs and the nervous energy calmed. We stopped at a café just afterwards and I realized I had been pick-pocketed in all the commotion. My phone was stolen. In all my travels, this is the first time I have ever experienced something like this. My momused her phone to call AT&T and block the phone as soon as we got back to the room. I changed as many passwords as I could think of and resolved to enjoy our last days of the trip. This is a major bummer, but overall it’s been a great getaway. I really appreciated my mom joining us and having fun all over the French Riviera and Monaco. Love you mom!
All Pictures from Eze were given to me from my momma, Jodi Kalawart, after my phone was stolen. Thank you!
