Agra Fort

Fierce and I agreed that we were going to go to the Agra Fort and then head straight back to the hotel to jump in the pool. The hotel taxi took us straight there and along the way we took in all of the colorful murals that are under the highway.

Once there, the driver walked us through vendors and across a bustling road to the ticket counter. Then, life slows down. The Agra Fort's high walls seem to shelter you from the noise outside. It is peaceful. You do have to get beyond a few people asking repeaatedly to be your guide. However, after that phase, Fierce and I could just wander, take in the beauriful architecture and read about the history. From a few of the lookouts we could see the Taj Mahal in the far distance. The Fort was built by Emperor Akbar in 1565 and served as the Mughal capital. We walked through several buildings and I really enjoyed how they carved geometrical patterns and flowers on the walls and ceilings. I am sure that the original was quite decedant. There were two gardens inside that add to the restful quality of the imposing structure. It was definitely worth visiting.

We made good on our plan and swam in the pool for a while. Then we just chilled and ordered room service. It was a much needed restful day.
