Resort Life in Albania

spa

The last three days have been good for the soul. Andrea offered to watch Fierce so I could enjoy a few hours at the spa. What a sweetheart, honestly, thank you. I booked a deep tissue massage and it was the best massage I have ever had. I felt like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, not to hard, not too soft, just relaxing. Afterwards, I slipped into the Turkish Bath and I was the only one there, so it was peaceful and I could take in the beauty of the room. The sauna was empty too, so I was able to enjoy that for quite a while by myself. I suppose, 11:00 am on a weekday, in the middle of winter, is the best time for a private spa day.

Later in the day, we all went to the indoor pool for a long time and enjoyed the hot tub as well. Fierce somehow convinced me to get back in the big pool after being warm, but we did have fun, so I guess he was right.

Yesterday, the sun was out and it was almost 60 degrees! After a lovely buffet breakfast, Fierce and I went to the beach to play in the sand. This time, we found a nice spot to read and draw. He read Plants vs. Zombies and I drew the waves and sand surrounding me. I tried to breathe in the fresh air and hold on to those moments. One or two people walked by, but otherwise, we had the stage to ourselves and Fierce could run about and play while I relaxed.

Late afternoon rolled around and we all decided to grab a taxi to Durres. I am so glad we did. The amphitheater, ruins, old castle walls and tower dot the city life of shops and restaurants. The old world jutting out of it’s Roman and Byzantine grave.

Before we left the city, we took our taxi driver’s advice and went to a restaurant with a rooftop view of the city below. There were little outdoor patios on all sides, so you could sit just about anywhere and have a pretty view. We ended up deciding to stay for dinner and sit inside where it was warmer, but even that was gorgeous. We ate good food and had great conversation.

Today is our last full day here and Fierce really wanted to just stay put. We did venture out to the beach to play spy guys and do sand obstacle courses. On the way back, we stopped at a juice bar with a cute patio trimmed in pretty, purple flowers. We chilled in the room for a while and then jumped in the pool. After sufficiently getting all of our wiggles out, we had a pizza-pool party! Back at the room again, we are getting ready for our next adventure…Paris!
