A Lovely Day in Marseille

Rest, sweet rest…we slept in and enjoyed tea on our balcony overlooking the Marseille Port.

Once we got going, we took a ferry across the port and walked to La Panier because a local thought they might be open today. It was not so, but we enjoyed the street art, locals fixing up their stores and even stopped at a Madeleines café.

Andrea wanted to find some antique stores and Fierce and I thought it would be fun to explore the fort on our side of the port, so we divided and conquered. We decided to walk the perimeter of the port on our way back. At the horseshoe part of the port a man with a street pup had five chess sets laid out. The day before, he was playing several guys at the same time. I nudged Fierce and asked him if he would like to play, He said, “Sure!,” so I put a few Euros in the man’s tin plate and the game was set. They played pretty fast. The man’s daily practice and art won out. but Fierce talked about where he went wrong and what he should have done for quite a while as we continued on our adventure for the day.

Unfortunately, the fort was under construction, but I had a back-up plan and we walked to a little cove of a beach. There were people lounging just watching the waves roll in to one side. A group of school children were doing a beach clean-up. Two men did a polar bear swim and Fierce thought they were crazy. There were a couple of dog walkers with very happy pups on their leashes. Otherwise, the winter weather left Fierce and I plenty of room to Pokémon battle and build sand cities. My city was defeated, but I did enter the World Coronation Series of Pokémon…who knew I had such skills!

Breathing in the fresh sea air one more time, we started walking back to the hotel. On our way, we walked right by Park Emile Duclaux. Fierce knocked some sand from his shoes and we head in to see what it was all about.

Walking uphill just a bit brought me a gorgeous historical building to look at and a sweet little park for Fierce to play and run around. From here, you could also see the islands in the distance and the other side of the port. It was postcard worthy.

We made it back to the hotel before the sun set and enjoyed some hotel time. That is until Fierce stepped on his Eiffel Tower toy and cut his foot. I went to the pharmacy for hydrogen peroxide and brandades. Once he was all patched up, Andrea ordered him room service with Margarita Pizza and Coke-Cola. He was all smiles then! Thank you Andrea!
